Beware, Antibiotic Drugs Trigger Kidney Stones in Children and Adolescents!

Health is an important part to be considered by anyone. When sick and taking medicine, doctors often prescribe antibiotics. But did you know that antibiotics that are safe for consumption also have side effects on the body?

Reported by Science Daily on Wednesday (16/05/2018), a study found that children and adults who do treatment with oral antibiotics have a higher risk of kidney stones. This is quite surprising because antibiotic drugs include safe and consumed by many people.

The study, published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, identifies electronic medical records from the UK, covering 13 million adults and children seen by GPs at the Health Improvement Network between 1994 and 2015.

Researchers analyzed antibiotic consumption in nearly 26 thousand patients with kidney stones, compared with 260 thousand control subjects. It was found that the cause of kidney stones can come from the use of antibiotic drugs. This risk becomes higher in children and adolescents.

The study's chairman and pediatric urologist at Philadelphia Children's Hospital, Gregory E. Tasian, said: "Kidney stone cases have increased over the last 30 years, with a sharp increase among teens and young women." Whereas previously renal stone is rare in children.

Other co-authors add, "But our findings suggest that oral antibiotics play a role, especially given that children are prescribed antibiotics at a higher rate than adults."

The antibiotic drug itself, according to the researcher, is able to change the microbial composition in the body so as to allow disturbance of intestinal microbiota and urine associated with the occurrence of kidney stones.

So, if it is not necessary to take antibiotics especially when the body is fine, you should not take antibiotics ya ladies. And to keep the risks, always keep the body healthy so no need to be sick and do not need to take antibiotics.
